Description:

Welcome to Southwest Missouri Foster Parent Support Group. This group is for foster, adoptive, kinship, and guardianship families. Parenting can be very difficult. Children that have experienced trauma may need additional parenting techniques. Being able to share our experiences with other families that truly understand what we are going through can be very helpful. We want you to know that you are not alone.

The fostering experience for relative and kinship parents is unique.  Join us for this six-session series as we discuss some of the special circumstances and how to address them.  While you are encouraged to attend all six session, it is not required.  Upon completion you will receive 2 hours credit for each session you attend.

Session 2: Guilt - One of the biggest challenges is placing the needs of the child first; before the needs of the child's birth parents. This is a huge shift for caregivers, since their original feelings of attachment, bonding, commitment, protection, and loyalty were with the birth parents.
