Description:

Get to know other Foster Parents in our area and build a support network so that we can support one another.  The SEMO Foster Parent Support Group generally meets IN PERSON on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the FosterAdopt Connect Cape Girardeau Branch Office.  We meet from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM for training and from 6:00 to 7:00 PM (CST) for support.

Training Topic: Building Connections with Kids

Learn how to build a positive rapport with foster children from all different backgrounds, experiences, and ages that come into our homes, and our hearts. We never know just how long we will have with these kiddos, so it is very important to build the best connections with these kids as soon as they enter our homes. We will learn about the critical tasks, and skills required to engage these children. As well as learning how to increase commitment, and a positive lasting connection. Our goal is to develop a supportive healing relationship between foster caregivers, and the youth in their homes. Youth have their own work to do in growth, and healing; your role as a foster parent is to consistently create the environment for them to feel safe enough to do their work. We will share ideas on how to create that safe environment, and become a more intentional parent. Upon completion you will earn 2 hours of training credit.

Advocate/Trainer

Jason Hollingsworth

I'm Jason Hollingsworth, and I am the advocate and trainer for the Cape Girardeau branch of FosterAdopt Connect. As an advocate, I work with biological, foster, and adoptive families as they navigate the challenges that come with the child welfare system. As a trainer, I facilitate course work for obtaining and maintaining state licensing. And I will begin hosting support groups in hopes to provide a local community of foster parents to learn from and encourage one another. I live in Jackson with my wife, and our two children. We adopted our oldest child through fostering, and I understand the ups and downs of working toward the best outcome for the children involved. My experience ignited a passion for advocating for those affected by the child welfare system, and I look forward to using that to work with each of my families.
