Description:

Welcome to Southwest Missouri Foster Parent Support Group. This group is for foster, adoptive, kinship, and guardianship families. Parenting can be very difficult. Children that have experienced trauma may need additional parenting techniques. Being able to share our experiences with other families that truly understand what we are going through can be very helpful. We want you to know that you are not alone.

Adolescence is often a time that youth explore romantic and sexual relationships, which can be hard to navigate for anyone. Youth with trauma backgrounds can struggle with boundaries and self-esteem, making those relationships difficult and sometimes unhealthy. How can we as foster parents help our teenagers learn skills for healthy relationships? Consent, self-esteem, and learning to pick your battles will all be part of this training!  (Disclaimer: This training will use a harm-reduction and body-positive framework for discussing sexuality and trauma.)

We will meet from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM for training and from 10:00 PM to 11:00 AM for support.   Upon completion 2 hours of training credit will be received.
