Description:

Children and youth in foster care often experience complex trauma resulting from chronic exposure to abuse, neglect, violence, caregiver loss, and other adverse childhood experiences. These traumatic experiences can significantly impact emotional regulation, behavior, attachment, development, learning, and overall well-being.

This training provides participants with an understanding of complex trauma and its effects on children and adolescents in foster care. Attendees will learn how trauma influences brain development, behavior, relationships, and daily functioning. The training explores common trauma responses that are often misunderstood as defiance, aggression, or noncompliance and emphasizes the importance of viewing behaviors through a trauma-informed lens.

Objectives:

  • Understand forms of trauma and the unique needs of youth in foster care
  • Recognize the indicators in youth who have experienced trauma
  • Understand the science of complex and developmental trauma
  • Provide tips and tools to foster resilience and support the youth

Upon completion, you will receive 1.25 hours of credit.
