Description:

Welcome to Southwest Missouri Foster Parent Support Group. This group is for foster, adoptive, kinship, and guardianship families. Parenting can be very difficult. Children that have experienced trauma may need additional parenting techniques. Being able to share our experiences with other families that truly understand what we are going through can be very helpful. We want you to know that you are not alone.

This class will discuss different parenting methods, and will focus on Gentle Parenting/Respectful Parenting method. Gentle parenting is a parenting approach grounded in four central elements: respect, understanding, empathy, and boundaries. It's rooted in research that shows strong, and healthy bonds with their parents can improve a child's long-term mental health, and resilience. This class will give you the tools to protect, nurture, and parent the foster children in your home as the humans that they are.

We will meet from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM for training and from 10:00 PM to 11:00 AM for support.   Upon completion you will receive 2 hours of training credit.
